코로나19, 금리 인상, 우크라이나-러시아 전쟁 등 지난 3년 간 해마다 물가 상승폭이 급격히 올라갔다. 특히 원자재 가격이 급상승하면서 각 산업별로 타격이 심했다. 이번에는 엘니뇨로 인해 또 다시 물가 상승이 예측된다는 말이 나오고 있다.
엘니뇨로 인한 기상이변, 소비자 물가에까지 영향
엘니뇨는 동태평양 해수면 온도가 평년보다 섭씨 기준 0.5도 이상으로 높아지는 현상으로 5개월 간 지속된다. 그렇게 되면 지구 온도는 약 0.2도 가량 높아진다. 기상학자들은 올해 하반기 슈퍼 엘니뇨가 발생할 가능성이 크다고 경고하고 있다. 엘니뇨로 인한 기상이변 문제로 고물가 문제는 더욱 가속될 것으로 업계는 전망하고 있다. 특히 가장 타격을 입을 것으로 보이는 산업은 설탕 산업이다. 사탕수수 공급에 차질이 생기면서 슈커플레이션(설탕+인플레이션)이 발생할 수도 있기 때문이다. 설탕 가격이 오르면 가공식품부터 외식까지 물가 상승에 다양한 영향을 줄 수 있다.
